FLY Ash blocks
Manufacturing
GFC Waste Management is conducting research on fly ash and bottom ash block manufacturing in Sri Lanka using ash recovered from hazardous medical waste incineration. The study focuses on evaluating the environmental impact, leachability, and compressive strength of the blocks to ensure safe and sustainable construction applications.
Our research systematically examines the presence of hazardous elements, potential leakage risks, and the structural performance of concrete samples with varying material compositions. We also assess environmental safety by monitoring water leakage and pH levels to ensure the materials meet required standards.
Through this initiative, GFC Waste Management promotes eco-friendly waste utilization and sustainable construction materials, ensuring that the final products are safe for both human health and the environment while supporting innovative waste-to-resource solutions in Sri Lanka.
R&D work is collaboration with SLIIT University, Civil engineering Department and reasearch is under supervision of Prof. Ayantha Gomes.
Landfill Block
Manufacturing
12 kg sealed concrete blocks are used to dispose 3-4 kg of unburned residual medical waste from the incineration. This concrete landfill blocks are usually watertight, but not doubled-walled. The cement itself is sufficient to isolate the waste from the environment. Finally, this proposed landfill blocks are daily manufacturing and avoiding residual waste to go to landfill or environment. We follow the Zero waste concept in our whole exercise
